Ion Rent Dispute: Landlords Chase Overdue Payments

Billionaire Andrea Pignataro’s financial technology group Ion missed rent payments on offices across three continents this year, leading landlords to cut access or threaten eviction. Employees at Ion’s Sydney office found an eviction notice for late payment of $90,000. In Munich, staff were denied entry for weeks after $40,000 in rent was unpaid. In Connecticut, a landlord sued იმისა that an Ion subsidiary failed to pay its March rent and vacate the premises. The Sydney and Munich debts have now been settled, and the legal action in Connecticut was withdrawn.

Ion’s $10bn debt burden and questions over new AI tools have drawn investor scrutiny. The group, which owns Mergermarket, Fidessa and Dealogic, grew rapidly through cheap debt during low‑rate periods and now earns about $400mn EBITDA quarterly. A sell‑off of Ion’s publicly traded debt has pushed financing costs above $800mn a year as rates rise.

With more than 50 offices and 13,000 staff worldwide, Ion argues that the rent disputes were routine and resolved, and that the amounts are a negligible fraction of its annual earnings.
