A tanker owned by Greek shipping tycoon George Prokopiou was reportedly towed into Iranian waters after being struck by two projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel, the Kavomaleas, was hit while sailing off the Omani coast, causing a fire that forced the crew to evacuate.

Satellite images from the European Space Agency show a ship matching the Kavomaleas's description in Iranian waters near Larak Island, with smoke rising from its engine. Shipping analysts suggest the vessel was likely captured and towed. Prokopiou's company, Dynacom, is known for operating in challenging regions and has a history of navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

Dynacom stated that any movement of the ship was unauthorized and they are verifying its location. The company also confirmed another of its vessels, the Acheloos, was hit the same night. This incident marks the third vessel seizure by Iran since the start of the US-Israeli conflict, following the capture of two MSC ships in April.

These attacks aim to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for Gulf oil exports. The breakdown of a recent ceasefire between the US and Iran has coincided with renewed assaults on maritime traffic.
