Google is set to provide financial backing for a multibillion-dollar data center project in Texas leased to Anthropic, marking a significant expansion of their partnership. The search giant plans to offer construction loans to Nexus Data Centers, the site's operator, as part of a broader infrastructure deal with the AI lab.

Construction loans from Google, expected to be finalized soon, will help Nexus secure financing at lower costs due to Alphabet's strong credit rating. A consortium of banks is also competing to provide financing for the initial $5 billion phase by mid-year. The 2,800-acre campus is part of Google's deepening relationship with Anthropic, which recently signed a lease with Nexus.

The project highlights Big Tech's growing focus on behind-the-meter power solutions to reduce reliance on grid connections. With construction already underway and early-stage debt from Eagle Point, the facility could deliver 500 megawatts of capacity by late 2026. The campus may eventually expand to 7.7 gigawatts, leveraging proximity to major gas pipelines operated by Enterprise, Energy Transfer, and Atmos.
