France joins UK-German missile defense pact

France seeks to join the UK-German deep precision strike program targeting 2,000km range missiles without US assistance. Paris aims to participate in three-way talks scheduled for early June, as European nations scramble to strengthen capabilities against Russian threats following Trump's cancellation of US missile deployment plans.

The program, announced in 2024 as part of the Trinity House defense agreement, remains conceptual but includes stealth cruise missiles and hypersonic weapons. European nations currently lack ground-launched systems capable of striking deep inside Russia, forcing reliance on air- or sea-launched platforms with limited 300km range.

Companies involved include MBDA and Hypersonica, with Paris proposing ArianeGroup join to supply rocket boosters. The weapons would enter service in early 2030s. While Berlin welcomes France's involvement, some UK officials express concern about potential disruption to their 18-month collaboration with Germany.
