Fake Spokesperson Raises Questions at Restructuring Firm

Two-year-old restructuring firm Coots & Boots surprised London's financial district when it was briefly appointed to oversee the administration of Market Financial Solutions, the collapsed British mortgage lender owing £2bn to Wall Street firms. The firm, which typically liquidates hotels and shops rather than handling complex financial cases, raised eyebrows among veteran restructuring professionals who had been competing for the lucrative assignment.

When Alphaville sought to interview C&B's head of marketing and communications Emilia Carrière, featured prominently on the company website, the mystery deepened. The receptionist confirmed no such employee worked there, and despite multiple attempts, no response was received. Carrière has no LinkedIn profile and an AI detection tool suggests her photo is computer-generated with 97% probability.

The apparent fabrication of a key corporate spokesperson raises serious questions about Coots & Boots' transparency. Director Duncan Coutts eventually responded, claiming the firm's technological investments support its ability to handle more complex cases, but refused to address the existence of Carrière. This episode casts doubt on the firm's credibility in the increasingly competitive restructuring market.
