Ebay and former top executives will pay $55.7mn to settle a lawsuit alleging a harassment campaign against a couple critical of the company. Ina and David Steiner accused Ebay leadership of mailing threatening items, including live cockroaches and a bloody pig’s head, to their home in 2019, and of online harassment.

Ebay pleaded guilty in a 2024 criminal case and paid a $3mn penalty, with seven employees receiving prison sentences between one and five years. The harassment began after the Steiners criticized Ebay in their newsletter.

Under the settlement, the Steiners will receive $48.7mn. Ebay will pay $6mn to charities, and former CEO Devin Wenig will pay $1mn to a free speech charity. Ebay stated the harassment was "wrong, reprehensible and should never have happened."
