Manchester-based Unique X, whose software is used by Disney, Warner Bros Discovery and Universal to distribute films globally, is exploring a London listing next year at a £300mn valuation. The company serves cinema chains including Odeon, Vue and Cineplex, and its technology manages film showings and trailer scheduling across more than 40,000 screens worldwide. A tech IPO would provide a welcome boost to London markets, which have seen lackluster activity despite recent regulatory reforms.

UK policymakers are actively encouraging listings, introducing measures such as stamp duty holidays and reduced free-float requirements. Downing Street recently questioned private equity firms about their reluctance to float portfolio companies domestically. In the first half of this year, only seven companies listed in the UK, raising £577mn, compared to nine listings raising £183mn in the same period last year.

Unique X was founded in 1997 in Norway and delivers over 1.1 billion cinema advertising spots annually. European investment firm Kartesia invested $80mn in 2024, with founder Chris Hagan retaining 85% ownership. The company may raise £100mn through the listing, though it is also considering a sale and timing remains subject to change.

Unique X and Kartesia declined to comment. Other anticipated UK listings, including Superdrug and Waterstones, face delays despite government efforts to revive the IPO market.
