China Achieves First Rocket Booster Catch

China’s Long March 10B successfully landed its booster in a floating net, marking the first controlled recovery of an orbital‑class rocket in the country. The state‑owned CALT used a sea‑based hook system, a first in the industry, and says it will re‑use the booster by the end of 2026.

The achievement follows Space X’s 2025 first Falcon 9 landing and follows a failed attempt by private firm Land Space with its Zhuque‑3 rocket. CALT’s method differs from Space X’s leg‑drop approach, showing China’s willingness to innovate and reduce debris.

China’s five‑year plan targets space power status by 2030, and reusable rockets could cut launch costs by up to 50 %, a figure that could reshape satellite deployment strategies. The new capability also signals China’s intent to field large satellite constellations, directly competing with U.S. Starlink.

Investors should note that this development may pressure global launch providers to accelerate reusability, potentially reshaping launch‑service pricing and market share.
