Beretta Holding, the world’s oldest firearms manufacturer, has acquired a 25% stake in US gunmaker Sturm Ruger for $107.5 million, more than doubling its previous holding. The tender offer, launched last month, offered $44.80 per share and was oversubscribed. Pietro Gussalli Beretta, CEO of the Luxembourg-based group, described the move as a “significant milestone” to expand in the US, the world’s largest gun market.

This marks Beretta’s first investment in a publicly listed company and is intended to foster collaboration, leveraging Beretta’s international network with Ruger’s strong US presence. Beretta, a 500-year-old company known for its pistols and shotguns, has grown under Gussalli Beretta’s leadership since 1995, acquiring over 20 businesses and expanding into defence and luxury goods. In 2025, civilian and sporting markets accounted for about 60% of its €1.68 billion revenue.

The group, a key NATO supplier, is also expanding in the UK to potentially supply the British Army under Project Grayburn, a €500 million programme to replace the SA80 rifle.
