Accenture, OneView win £500mn Post Office IT overhaul

After the Horizon accounting scandal forced the UK Post Office to scrap its long‑standing partnership with Fujitsu, the mail‑service operator turned to two new suppliers. Accenture and OneView Commerce were awarded contracts to manage the existing platform and build a replacement system that had been under fire for years.

Together the deals total £500mn, covering both operational services and the development of a modern, cloud‑based alternative to Horizon. For investors, the contracts represent a rare infusion of IT spend into a government‑linked utility, while also exposing Accenture and OneView to scrutiny over delivery timelines. The Post Office hopes the new architecture will restore public confidence after years of litigation.

The partnership will run for an initial five‑year term, after which the Post Office can extend or retender. Early milestones include migrating legacy data and launching a pilot in the next six months. Successful execution will lock in a steady revenue stream for the contractors and finally give the Post Office a functional IT backbone to support its core services.
