China’s Sichuan Yahua Industrial Group Co. is preparing to launch a $200 million lithium‑sulfate facility in Zimbabwe, slated to become operational in the second quarter of 2025. The move aligns with Yahua’s strategy to capitalize on emerging lithium markets and diversify its production base beyond China’s domestic supply chain.

Zimbabwe has been actively pursuing policies that allow the country to capture greater value from its abundant lithium reserves. By partnering with foreign investors like Yahua, the government hopes to boost local employment, technology transfer, and create a more robust downstream processing sector.

The plant’s capacity will enable the country to convert raw lithium ore into high‑purity lithium‑sulfate, a key feedstock for batteries and electronics. The investment also signals confidence in Zimbabwe’s political stability and the effectiveness of its recent regulatory reforms aimed at attracting clean‑energy infrastructure.

If the project proceeds as scheduled, it could position Zimbabwe as a critical node in the global lithium supply chain, offering a more sustainable alternative to traditional spodumene‑based processes. Yahua’s entry is expected to spur ancillary industries, from logistics to chemical processing, and pave the way for further foreign direct investment in the region.
