Ukraine attacked Russia’s Taneco oil-processing facility in Tatarstan, roughly 900 kilometers east of Moscow, triggering a fire, according to Kyiv’s General Staff. A separate strike hit the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal on the Black Sea coast, also causing a blaze. The attacks mark an escalation in Ukraine’s campaign against Russian energy infrastructure, with nine oil-processing sites and the key port of Novorossiysk targeted this month.

Refinery strikes have intensified fuel shortages across Russia, prompting some regions to reintroduce rationing. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak acknowledged a second wave of gasoline shortages but expects supply improvements as repairs conclude. The Taneco plant, capable of processing over 300,000 barrels daily, is a major supplier to Russia’s European regions and has been struck multiple times this year.

The Tamanneftegaz terminal handles nearly 20 million tons annually of liquefied petroleum gas, fuel, and crude oil. Tatneft and Tamanneftegaz have not commented on the damage.
