Advent International LP‑backed Svatantra Microfin Pvt. has begun the first step toward an initial public offering that could raise $250 million. The micro‑finance firm, founded by Ananya Birla, has hired Kotak Mahindra Capital and Axis Capital as advisers and plans to file draft paperwork in the coming months. The offering will mix primary shares with secondary sales by existing investors.

Svatantra, India's second‑largest micro‑finance institution, manages assets of about 220 billion rupees and operates more than 2,200 branches across 20 states. Its 2024 investment round saw Advent and Multiples Private Equity contribute roughly $230 million. The IPO could position the firm for further expansion while providing liquidity to early backers amid a strong IPO market that saw $2.9 billion raised in India this year.

With advisers in place and a clear valuation window, Svatantra’s move could attract institutional investors looking for exposure to the micro‑finance sector, which remains a key driver of financial inclusion in India. The filing timeline will test the company’s ability to navigate regulatory scrutiny and market timing, as investors weigh the firm’s growth prospects against broader economic headwinds in the near term.
