Qatar is preparing to accelerate liquefied natural gas production once shipping traffic resumes through the Strait of Hormuz, according to sources familiar with the plans. The Gulf nation aims to rebuild most of its export capacity within approximately eight weeks. This rapid restart strategy signals Qatar's intent to quickly recapture market share and meet global LNG demand.

The move comes amid ongoing shipping disruptions in the critical waterway that connects Persian Gulf producers to global markets. QatarEnergy, the state-owned energy giant, has been forced to reduce LNG exports since the strait closure began affecting tanker routes. The company operates some of the world's largest LNG facilities and maintains significant spare capacity that can be brought online swiftly.

Restoring export capacity within two months would allow Qatar to resume supplying major Asian and European buyers who depend on its reliable long-term contracts. The country produces roughly 77 million tons annually, making it the globe's top LNG exporter. Global LNG markets have faced supply uncertainty since the Hormuz situation escalated.
