The Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia will begin accession talks with the 12‑nation Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans‑Pacific Partnership, the statement released in Singapore said. Senior officials from the bloc will hold preparatory discussions aimed at extending free‑trade links across Southeast Asia and the Gulf. The move marks the strategic first bid by these three economies to join the pact.

CPTPP originated as a US‑led trade initiative in the Asia‑Pacific, but Washington withdrew in 2017. Japan, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom now dominate the 12‑member bloc, accounting for roughly half of its $500 billion combined GDP. Adding the Philippines, UAE and Indonesia could expand the agreement’s market reach into the world’s fourth‑largest economy and a fast‑growing Gulf hub.

The same virtual meeting reaffirmed commitment to fast‑track Costa Rica’s accession and to accelerate work on Uruguay’s application. Ministers also signaled interest in constructive dialogue with the European Union on investment and trade issues. For investors, the expanded membership could deepen supply‑chain integration and create new tariff‑free routes, sharpening the competitive edge of firms operating across the Indo‑Pacific corridor.
