Pakistan said it has asked the US for a $10 billion facility and expects a response from Washington within a couple of months, as it seeks to capitalize on improved ties with the Trump administration. The engagement with the US on the facility has been “constructive,” Khurram Schehzad, an adviser to the finance minister, told Bloomberg News on Tuesday. “The proposed US stabilization facility would also serve as a potential backstop and confidence signal, supporting market access and helping crowd in private capital.” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US President Donald Trump met in 2025, signaling renewed diplomatic engagement. The request comes as Islamabad aims to strengthen economic resilience amid external pressures.

Officials say the facility would act as a stabilizing mechanism to bolster investor confidence and facilitate access to international capital markets. The timeline for a US response is expected within the next two months.
