Maruti Suzuki Fights Order on Ethanol Fuel Damage

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. plans to contest a consumer court ruling that mandates the replacement of a vehicle due to alleged damage from ethanol-blended fuel. This case is particularly noteworthy given the ongoing discussions surrounding India's commitment to biofuels.

The order, issued by a district consumer disputes redressal forum in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, requires Maruti Suzuki to replace a Maruti Swift VXi and pay ₹30,000 in compensation. The owner claimed the car's engine was damaged after using fuel with a higher ethanol blend.

Maruti Suzuki maintains that its vehicles are designed to handle ethanol blends up to the government-mandated E10 (10% ethanol). The company stated it will appeal the decision, emphasizing its commitment to vehicle quality and consumer satisfaction while navigating the complexities of India's biofuel policies.
