Maersk and Hateco have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a $3.5 billion railway container terminal network in northern Vietnam. The project, inked during President To Lam’s visit to Denmark, will establish a rail freight terminal and cargo handling centers in Haiphong, plus three additional facilities in northern provinces. The network aims to connect industrial parks, logistics hubs, and production zones with major transport hubs.

This initiative supports Vietnam’s push to upgrade infrastructure and sustain double-digit economic growth. The planned facilities will use digital technology to improve cargo handling and storage, linking to seaports and rail infrastructure to ease road congestion and expand cross-border shipment options. Maersk and Hateco are already collaborating on a $400 million container port in Haiphong and a $98 million inland terminal in Hanoi.

Maersk is also expanding its investment in the $2 billion Lien Chieu container terminal in Danang.
