Kioxia Shares Plummet Amidst Seoul ETF Crackdown

Kioxia Holdings Corp. shares have experienced a significant decline, losing over a third of their value in the past month, following a regulatory crackdown by South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) on leveraged single-stock ETFs. This intervention led to forced margin unwinds, impacting Asian semiconductor companies and causing an estimated $22.9 billion in value destruction regionally. Kioxia, known for its high volatility, saw its stock close Friday at €294.00, down 12.24% for the day and 39.51% over 30 sessions.

Compounding Kioxia's challenges, its ownership structure is becoming more complex. Toshiba recently reduced its stake, while rival SK Hynix has increased its holding to 14%, raising concerns among Japanese authorities about potential influence on the semiconductor supply chain. Investors are now closely watching Kioxia's upcoming first-quarter earnings report on July 31st. Despite the stock's recent turmoil, the company's NAND production capacity is reportedly fully booked for the rest of 2026, driven by AI infrastructure demand. Analysts anticipate a doubling of quarterly profit, contingent on sustained average selling prices.
