Police said gunmen stormed the Rangers headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan‑i‑Jauhar district, killing three paramilitary soldiers and wounding civilians. Attackers rammed a vehicle into the main gate, triggering a large blast before opening fire. Sindh Inspector General Javed Alam Odho confirmed that four attackers were also killed in the ensuing gunbattle. The blast damaged nearby vehicles and prompted a massive police response.

Security forces sealed off Mosamiat Chowrangi and deployed Special Security Unit commandos, Anti‑Terrorist Force units and Rangers troops to clear the site. The Edhi Foundation reported at least two civilians injured and taken to hospital. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered a detailed report after hearing “sounds of an explosion and firing.” Roads remained closed for hours, disrupting traffic to the commercial hub.

Jamaat‑ul‑Ahrar, a splinter of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility, saying nine militants participated. The assault adds to a wave of attacks on security installations across Pakistan, raising concerns for investors in the country’s infrastructure and energy projects, which could face heightened insurance premiums and operational disruptions. Analysts warn repeated attacks could curb investment in Karachi’s port.
