U.S. Marines opened fire on demonstrators storming the Karachi consulate over the weekend, killing ten people, according to two U.S. officials. This marks the first confirmation of Marine involvement in the incident. Protesters breached the compound's outer wall after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in strikes on Iran, sparking widespread angerwhether the Marines' shots caused the deaths or if other security forces, including private contractors and police, fired as well.

A Pakistani provincial spokesman attributed the gunfire to 'security' personnel without specifying their affiliation. The incident underscores the severe threat perceived at the consulate, located in Pakistan's second-largest Shi'ite community. Pakistan responded by banning large gatherings nationwide, with 26 reported dead across the country.

Protesters chanted anti-American slogans outside the consulate, and video showed bloodied demonstrators fleeing gunfire. Roads to the consulate were blocked, and similar security measures were in place at other U.S. missions.
