IRGC Dismantling Key to Iranian Reform: Aarabi

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps must be dismantled for ordinary citizens to regain control of their country, according to Kasra Aarabi, Director of IRGC Research at United Against Nuclear Iran. Aarabi appeared on Bloomberg's The Opening Trade to discuss the power vacuum created after Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's death during US-Israeli military operations.

Aarabi described Iran's 'invisible' state - the Supreme Leader's office working alongside the IRGC - as actively preventing any leadership transition. This dual structure has operated behind the scenes to maintain control, effectively blocking democratic reforms. The IRGC's economic and political influence extends throughout Iranian society, making its removal essential for genuine change.

Aarabi's assessment highlights the structural barriers to Iranian reform. Without dismantling the IRGC's apparatus, any succession process would likely preserve the current power dynamics that have defined Iran's governance for decades. The organization's deep entrenchment in Iran's economy and security apparatus makes this a formidable challenge for reform movements.
