Iran Allows Hormuz Passage with Conditions

Iran announced that foreign ships can transit the Strait of Hormuz if they meet Tehran's conditions. The country circulated a letter to the International Maritime Organization stating that vessels must not support acts of aggression against Iran and must follow regulations established by Iranian authorities.

This policy allows for safe passage but requires coordination with Iranian maritime officials. The letter, dated March 22, was distributed to IMO members on Tuesday.

Iran's move comes amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf region. The strait handles about 20% of global oil shipments, making it a critical waterway for international energy markets. Tehran's conditions for passage could affect shipping routes and insurance costs for vessels operating in the area.
