India Gas Supply Cuts Follow Qatar Export Shutdown

Indian liquefied natural gas importers began reducing supplies to industrial customers after Qatar shut down the world's largest LNG export facility. One major importer cut Qatari gas deliveries to a local supplier, forcing that firm to inform some industrial buyers their orders would be reduced, according to people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity as the information remains private.

The disruption follows Qatar's halt at its Ras Laffan plant following an Iranian drone attack amid escalating regional conflict. Almost half of India's LNG came from Qatar last year, making it the country's dominant supplier. The sudden shutdown exposes India's vulnerability to energy supply shocks from the Middle East at a time when regional tensions are rising.

India's oil ministry hasn't commented on the developing situation. LNG importers are exploring non-Qatar sources while New Delhi suggests government-to-government deals for alternative supplies. Industrial customers face potential production disruptions as India's energy security comes under pressure from the Middle East conflict.
