Hindalco Q1 Profit Surges 2.7x on Margin Expansion

Hindalco Industries reported a strong first-quarter performance, with consolidated net profit rising to Rs 7,013 crore, surpassing the Bloomberg consensus estimate of Rs 5,614 crore. The Aditya Birla Group company saw profit surge from Rs 2,597 crore in the previous quarter, while revenue from operations increased 8.6% sequentially to Rs 84,825 crore. Operating metrics delivered the biggest surprise, with Ebitda jumping 39.1% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 13,932 crore, well above the Street estimate of Rs 11,011 crore. Ebitda margin expanded sharply to 16.4% from 12.8% in the March quarter, reflecting stronger operating efficiencies and improved profitability.

The company continued to face one-time items during the quarter, though the exceptional loss narrowed substantially to Rs 2,300 crore compared with Rs 4,171 crore in the previous quarter. Hindalco's aluminium upstream business delivered a strong performance, with earnings rising 17% sequentially to Rs 13,403 crore, supporting the overall improvement in consolidated profitability.

Following the results announcement, Hindalco Industries shares rose 2.73% to Rs 1,055 per share on Friday, though gains were pared by afternoon trade. The stock has gained 7.2% in one week and 16.72% year-to-date, reflecting investor confidence in the company's improving fundamentals.
