Dangote Ends Naira Pricing for Refined Oil

Dangote Refinery has stopped selling petroleum products in Nairaكسير and switched to dollar‑denominated pricing, citing a mismatch between the currency used to buy crude and the currency sold for refined fuels. The new rates, effective July 13, 2026, set Premium Motor Spirit at $0.779 per litre, Diesel at $1.087 per litre, Aviation Turbine Kerosene.ant at $0.942 per litre, and coastal petrol at $1,044.62 per metric tonne.

The decision follows a shift in the refinery’s crude supply mix, with a growing share of feedstock coming from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited under dollar‑denominated contracts. The resulting foreign‑exchange exposure prompted the move to a uniform pricing framework in U.S. dollars.

While the new scheme does not affect LPG transactions, it will influence downstream marketers who source directly from the refinery. Fuel prices at the pump will still depend on the prevailing naira‑to‑dollar rate, logistics, and regulatory costs.

The shift highlights the ongoing foreign‑exchange pressures facing Nigeria’s downstream sector and raises questions about the future of the government’s naira‑for‑crude policy.
