Chanel has agreed to acquire Charvet, the historic French shirtmaker established in 1838 and renowned for its bespoke garments, including striped linen shirts typically priced around $746. The deal aims to preserve the artisanal "savoir-faire" of the Place Vendome institution, which once dressed figures like Winston Churchill and Coco Chanel herself.

This move signals Chanel's strategic interest in heritage craftsmanship. New creative director Matthieu Blazy, who collaborated with Charvet for his debut collection, is tasked with evolving the brand. Blazy's early success with collections for women, including a $4,000+ shirt, has boosted Chanel's sales amidst a challenging market for luxury goods.

While the purchase price remains undisclosed, the acquisition allows Chanel to integrate Charvet's esteemed menswear reputation. Chanel fashion head Bruno Pavlovsky suggested Charvet could become a distinct name for men's apparel, even as the brand plans to maintain Charvet's singular Paris boutique. The Wertheimer-owned group continues its strategy of selective brand integration.
