Brooklyn Preschool Embezzlement Scandal Shocks Parents

A Brooklyn preschool faces turmoil after its former director was arrested for allegedly embezzling $2.8 million in tuition payments over nearly four years. Murielle Misczak, who earned $40,000 annually, allegedly spent over $350,000 on wrestling tickets and luxury goods, according to federal prosecutors.

KinderHaus, a German-language preschool charging nearly $50,000 yearly, discovered the alleged scheme when founder Simona D'Souza had to use personal savings to cover payroll. The school filed a lawsuit against Misczak last year after uncovering suspicious financial activity. Prosecutors say Misczak oversaw daily operations, staff supervision, and tuition management.

The scandal has rattled New York's private school community, where annual tuition often exceeds $70,000. Parents League of New York's Barbara Scott emphasized the importance of understanding school oversight structures, noting that one-person operations can lack proper financial controls. KinderHaus continues operations, with D'Souza assuring parents that programs remain stable and unaffected.
