BMO Capital Markets has appointed Rahim Bapoo to lead its global critical minerals strategy and help expand the investment bank’s presence in Florida to meet growing client demand across the value chain. Bapoo, who joined BMO in 2007, will remain in Miami and take on the newly created position immediately, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg News.

He will continue to report to co-heads of global metals and mining Ilan Bahar and Jamie Rogers, as well as Warren Estey, head of investment banking, the note said. The bank views Florida as a “growing hub” for mining, metals and industrial clients.

BMO is the mining industry’s top adviser so far this year based on number of deals, overseeing 11 announced takeovers valued at $12.6 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
