More than two-thirds of the electricity sought for the artificial intelligence boom in the US isn't likely to materialize due to 'phantom' projects and long-shot pitches.

According to a report by Bloomberg Markets, developers have proposed massive power capacity for new AI data centers, but many of these projects are speculative or lack credible financing.

The gap between announced demand and actual delivery could strain grid planning efforts and mislead investors. Utilities and regulators are increasingly skeptical of large power purchase agreements tied to unproven AI facilities.

Industry experts note that while real demand exists, the current pipeline includes numerous proposals that will never reach construction, creating uncertainty for energy markets.
