The post got over 35 million views and drew condemnation from Republicans like Gov. Greg Abbott and Rep. Lacey Hull. French doubled down, claiming institutions are overrun by illegal aliens, despite UT-Austin's freshman class being at least 90% Texas residents.

Such fear of students at a football game reveals a sad, hateful life. Sports unite across ages, races, religions, and socioeconomic groups. Fandom asks nothing of who you are. It gives workers, strangers, and scattered families shared identity and community.

The image French found troubling was the American dream in progress. Sports should be a unifier, not a political divider. Let it be.
