Anxiety and depression cost the global economy an estimated 12 billion working days and $1 trillion in lost productivity each year, according to the World Health Organization. Along with rising sickness rates and aging populations, mental health is driving workplace absenteeism. In response, employers are turning to occupational healthcare services, which focus on employees’ wellbeing in the workplace. PE has taken notice, with several dealmakers pursuing transactions in the sector. Starting from the most recent, PE Hub rounded up six deals dating back to March.

Phoenix Equity Partners backs Medmark: Phoenix Equity Partners announced in August an investment in Medmark, an occupational healthcare services provider in Ireland. Founded in 1987, the Dublin-based company provides healthcare screenings, workplace medical assessments and employee wellbeing services to over 500,000 employees. It has nine locations across Ireland that serve public and private sector organizations of all sizes. The deal extends Phoenix’s presence in the healthcare market, alongside previous investments in Envisage and London Gynaecology.

Quad-C invests in Paradigm: Also in August, Quad-C Management announced an investment in Paradigm HSE, a Houston-based provider of healthcare and safety services and equipment to industrial customers across North America. Paradigm was formed through the combination of Code Red Safety, Concept Controls and Haz Tek. Together as one company, these businesses provide expertise in turnaround logistics, safety training, fire safety and rescue training.
