Apple Fellow Phil Schiller is reducing his workload at Apple, stepping away from his responsibilities overseeing the App Store and managing product events. Schiller, 66, previously served as Apple's SVP of marketing before becoming an Apple Fellow in 2020. His decision comes during the final days of Tim Cook's tenure as CEO, though Apple has not yet made an official announcement.

While Schiller will no longer manage the App Store or Apple Events on a day-to-day basis, he has told employees he will remain at Apple working on unspecified initiatives. The move may signal a step toward eventual retirement, similar to his transition to Apple Fellow six years ago when Greg Joswiak took over as SVP of Worldwide Marketing.

The timing coincides with John Ternus becoming Apple's new CEO. Apple is quickly filling the App Store leadership void by moving responsibility to the Services division under Eddy Cue, who previously managed the App Store before 2015. Day-to-day operations will be handled by Carson Oliver.
