President Trump is planning to use the Boeing luxury jet donated by Qatar for an overseas trip to Ireland next week. This marks the first time he will use the plane abroad since security concerns were raised about its defensive capabilities. A senior administration official confirmed the plans on Friday.

Earlier this year, Trump stated the jet would be taken out of service for roughly a month for new security upgrades. The Washington Post reported on his intention to utilize the Qatari aircraft. However, questions remain regarding its readiness.

The jet was retrofitted quickly to enter service during his current term, following delays with two new Boeing jets commissioned for presidential travel. Those newer planes are designed as flying command centers with extensive missile defense capabilities. When asked if the Qatari jet would be "maxed out" for security, Trump suggested it would take about 60 days to reach full capability, with upgrades sent in October.

The Qatari jet's safety was called into question after its use at the NATO summit in Turkey in July. Reports indicate a threat was identified, leading to a last-minute switch to an older aircraft. Although Trump initially planned for the jet to go to his presidential library in Miami, he recently indicated it will likely go to the museum instead.
