Siranudh Scott, an heir to Thailand’s Singha beer empire, publicly accused his older brother Sunit Scott and their nanny of sexually assaulting him as a child, alleging his mother Chiranuj Bhirombhakdi covered up the abuse. The accusation, made earlier this year, led to his estrangement from the family and cutoff from the $1.3 billion Singha fortune. His claims sparked a rare national reckoning on sexual assault in Thailand, where the #MeToo movement had limited impact.

Siranudh, also known as Psi, described abuse beginning at age 8 with the nanny and escalating at age 9 with his brother, whom he said engaged in non-consensual acts during roughhousing. His mother disputed his account in her first public comment; his brother denied the allegations, calling them mischaracterized. The nanny did not respond to requests for comment.

Siranudh said speaking out brought him acknowledgment and relief, calling the exposure “some form of justice.” He has become a public symbol of resistance, celebrated by supporters who mob him in Bangkok streets. His grandfather, Chamnong Bhirombhakdi, founded Boon Rawd Brewery, which owns Singha and dominates Thailand’s beer market. The case has empowered others to share similar stories of familial and institutional abuse.
