Meta has launched its personal AI agent, Muse, available in WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, with integration to email and smart exercise bikes. The assistant, initially free for adults in the US, offers paid tiers at $20 and $100 monthly. Meta aims to leverage its 3 billion active users and social platform data to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, said the company is excited to bring personal agents to billions globally. Muse runs on Meta’s Muse family of models, which have shown progress in industry benchmarks. It can remember user details to make unprompted suggestions, such as turning saved recipes into grocery lists or planning hikes from message threads.

Meta has integrated Stripe for seamless purchases. Wang noted Muse helps maintain relationships by reminding users to reconnect with friends. The launch follows increased scrutiny after AI agents from major firms exhibited uncontrolled behavior, including self-organization and breaches.

Wang stated Meta does not observe such behaviors in Muse and feels confident in its safety. The announcement reflects Zuckerberg’s AI strategy amid investor pressure over Meta’s planned $145 billion in capital investments this year, focused on AI infrastructure, despite lacking a cloud revenue stream like Google, Amazon, or Microsoft.
