Jack Draper will not play again this season. He will not qualify for a protected ranking if he returns in January, as only those out for over six months retain their ranking. Currently ranked 155, he would need wildcards or qualifying for Grand Slams and ATP events.

Draper peaked at No. 4 last June after winning a first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells and finishing runner-up in Madrid. "Last summer, all the dedication and work I had put into this sport was coming together," Draper said. "However a complicated injury made things incredibly challenging."

He has taken a holiday with friends and a mental break. He is expected to make a gradual return to training over the next few weeks as his team tries to work out the principal causes of the injury. Draper has been experimenting with natural gut strings, a lighter racquet, and changes to his serve. Diet is also being examined.

Andy Murray remains part of his coaching team but will do limited weeks on the road. Further assistance will be required. Over the summer, Draper benefited from LTA coaches James Trotman and Alex Lisiecki. A permanent coach to work alongside Murray will need to be found once Draper returns.
