Warwickshire captain Ed Barnard has been praised as the driving force behind the Bears' 2026 County Championship triumph. Taking over just a fortnight before the season, the 30-year-old Shropshire-born former Worcestershire all-rounder led his side to victory in their final four games, three by an innings, to claim the title. First-team coach Ian Westwood highlighted Barnard's consistency and leadership, saying he commands respect in the changing room.

Westwood also credited returning bowling coach Graeme 'Pop' Welch and Sussex-bound batting coach Matthew Walker. Sam Hain was a standout performer with 1,048 runs at an average of nearly 75. The crucial run of four straight wins in September at Southampton, Cardiff and Chelmsford catapulted Warwickshire from outsiders to champions.

Westwood described the final stretch as exceptional, with the title effectively won at Chelmsford before the last game added pressure that Barnard and the lads handled superbly.
