Blizzard recently revealed it is working on a new open-world shooter as a continuation of the StarCraft series, and given Xbox's recent push for exclusives, the expectation was that StarCraft would be an Xbox exclusive. However, new information suggests this may not be the case.

According to a Blizzard representative responding to Kotaku, the studio "can only say for now that StarCraft won't be exclusive," though they declined to provide more specifics. For now, it's safe to assume StarCraft will launch on PC and Xbox at least—given the close relationship between Xbox consoles and PC, and the "hybrid" branding surrounding the Xbox Helix—but it's unclear whether the game will also launch on PlayStation 5.

Since Xbox's new CEO, Asha Sharma, stepped into her role, much of her strategy seems to hinge on returning to exclusive games to build a loyal audience. When previously asked about potentially walking back exclusivity on the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, Xbox's Matt Ball replied that "Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will stay exclusive. There are no conversations and have been no conversations to reverse course." Given that E-Day is coming to PC via Steam, an Xbox exclusive likely means Xbox-and-PC exclusive. By that logic, we may also see a PlayStation launch, likely with support for both PlayStation 6 and PlayStation 5, given that it will be close to the expected launch of the PS6.
