OpenAI's ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox have been classified as very large online platforms under the EU Digital Services Act. The European Commission announced the designation on Monday, citing the services' impact on EU citizens. All three platforms surpassed 45 million monthly users in the EU, triggering enhanced scrutiny.

The classification obligates the companies to remove illegal content and protect minors' privacy and security. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to 6 percent of global revenue. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen stated the move holds these services to a higher standard of accountability.

X's AI chatbot Grok is already under investigation under the law. The platforms now have until the end of December to comply with the additional obligations.
