Racing Louisville FC midfielder Savannah De Melo is suing University of Louisville Health and two physicians, Dr. Jennifer Daily and Dr. Sarabjeet Suri, for alleged negligence in failing to diagnose a heart condition that caused her cardiac arrest during an NWSL match in Seattle on Sept. 14, 2025.

De Melo revealed the diagnosis of an undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia on Monday, the one-year anniversary of the collapse. The lawsuit, obtained by Joe Sonka of Kentucky Public Media, alleges the doctors failed to properly diagnose and treat her conditions despite complaints of chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath dating back to March 2025. De Melo was hospitalized after feeling lightheaded during a match that month, initially attributed to hyperthyroidism medication imbalance.

She has not played since the Seattle incident and cites ongoing medical expenses, lost income, and permanent impairment to her earning power. University of Louisville Health declined to comment on pending litigation. Dr. Daily serves as Racing Louisville's chief medical officer, though sources say the partnership ends this year and will not be renewed.

This was the second on-field cardiac incident in the 2025 NWSL season, following Angel City FC defender Savy King's collapse in May. The league faced criticism for allowing that match to continue but halted play immediately for De Melo.
