The Indianapolis Colts placed wide receiver Alec Pierce on injured reserve Saturday due to a heel injury sustained during overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce, who had surgery in March, returned on a limited basis in Week 1 before reaggravating the issue in Week 2. He must now miss a minimum of four games, with the earliest possible return Oct. 25 at Minnesota Vikings.

The loss of Pierce -- the league's premier deep threat and yards per catch leader the past two seasons -- creates a significant offensive void. Quarterback Daniel Jones saw yards per attempt drop from a career-best 8.1 to 6.1 through two games. To fill the void, the Colts signed veteran Darius Slayton earlier this week and added Anthony Gould from the practice squad Saturday. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was also elevated for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.

Pierce's absence forces the Colts to rely on depth options as they attempt to sustain offensive production without their primary deep threat.
