Apple informed Mac App Store developers today that universal macOS apps requiring macOS 13 or later can now remove Intel-based Mac support. The company stated in an email: 'We're reaching out to let you know that universal macOS apps on the Mac App Store that require macOS 13 or later can now remove support for Intel-based Mac computers.' Developers can simplify development and reduce download and on-device size by updating build settings to 'arm64' only, then rebuilding and resubmitting their app. Previously, Intel compatibility was mandatory.

Intel users can continue using the last compatible app version. This change aligns with macOS 27 Golden Gate, which drops Intel support entirely. Apple previously announced Rosetta 2 translation software will be discontinued after macOS 27, except for certain games.
