Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and director Mark Walter have sold their stakes to majority owner Clearlake Capital. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has also sold his stake, giving Clearlake, led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, full control of the club.

Boehly, Walter and Wyss each held 12.8%, with Clearlake previously owning 61.5% of the Blues. Boehly will leave as chairman, a role held since 2022, when the consortium bought Chelsea for £2.3bn from Roman Abramovich.

Boehly said it had been an “honour” to serve Chelsea and thanked the English Premier League, coaches, players, staff and fans. He said Chelsea is well positioned under Clearlake’s leadership. Since the takeover, Chelsea’s highest Premier League finish is fourth in 2024-25, alongside Uefa Conference League and Fifa Club World Cup wins. The club finished 10th last season and appointed Xabi Alonso.

Eghbali and Feliciano thanked Boehly, saying he will always be part of the Chelsea story. Clearlake plans to keep investing in infrastructure, sporting performance and player development. Plans for Stamford Bridge or a new stadium had caused tension, but Chelsea said there will be no changes to operations, leadership or strategy.
