Craig Bellamy has described Cristiano Ronaldo as "beyond a superstar" after witnessing the Portugal legend cause an airport lockdown in Lisbon.

Bellamy, now Wales boss, was on a pre-season trip with Burnley when the Portuguese capital's airport was effectively locked down due to Ronaldo's presence. The Welshman recalled how rows of police and security officials were everywhere, and the Burnley party was stuck on their coach for 10-15 minutes.

"Suddenly this car turns up, it parks and a guy walks out, goes in the boot, grabs a rucksack... who is it? Ronaldo," Bellamy said. "He is walking on his own with police everywhere and Lisbon airport locked off. Even the police were taking pictures."

Bellamy added: "It was the coolest walk I have ever watched for a minute. Everyone who had been moaning quickly shut up. It was like presidents stuff." He now faces Ronaldo as Wales begin their Nations League campaign in Portugal.
