Pete Alonso returned to Citi Field on Monday night with the Baltimore Orioles and received a warm welcome from Mets fans. Entering the game on the verge of his 300th career home run, Alonso went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Baltimore's 2-1 victory. The first baseman, who signed a $155 million, five-year contract with the Orioles after the 2025 season, acknowledged the mixed emotions of facing his former team. "So many good memories here -- I played with so many good people, talented people," Alonso said.

He hit a franchise-record 264 home runs for the Mets and was drafted by New York. The Mets, who did not aggressively pursue re-signing him, were officially eliminated from postseason contention Monday night. Fans wearing Alonso's old No. 20 cheered during batting practice, and he exchanged greetings with former teammate Jose Iglesias and Mets owner Steve Cohen.

Alonso entered the game with 299 career homers, tied with friend and former teammate Francisco Lindor. He could become just the third player to hit his 300th homer against a team for whom he played 1,000+ games, joining Willie Horton and Torii Hunter.
