Apple is developing several new HomePod features based on code references found in audio OS 27 beta 8. A user on the MacRumors forums discovered references to a new surround sound system capable of arranging four full-sized HomePod (2nd generation) speakers. In this quad placement, front speakers use left- and right-specific processing with wall compensation, while rear HomePods receive omnidirectional treatment.

The code also references a new "Forklift" system combining two second-generation HomePods with two other unidentified speakers. Additionally, code suggests work on "Party Mode," which spreads sound into a wider, more ambient mix to fill rooms evenly. Bloomberg recently reported Apple could release a new HomePod mini within several months, though a new full-sized model is not imminent.

Apple released its current full-sized HomePod in February 2023. Whether these features ship remains uncertain, but the evidence shows Apple continues upgrading home theater capabilities for its HomePod product family.
