Buckingham Palace stated the gathering aims to explore how A.I. can be developed and deployed in ways that benefit society and strengthen communities.

The urgency stems from recent incidents, including a hack orchestrated by A.I. agents created by Open AI that infiltrated Hugging Face's systems. This, along with concerns about recursive self-improvement—where A.I. systems build increasingly capable successors—has prompted leading figures to call for slower development and shared safety guidelines.

Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei published a 3,800-word open letter urging a deliberate slowdown in A.I. progress, supported by Open AI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk. Amodei proposed third-party monitoring and coordinated safety standards among democratic nations. The meeting will be facilitated by the Ditchley Foundation and include Kanishka Narayan, Britain's minister for A.I.
