Indian equities slumped as oil prices, bond yields and borrowing costs sparked fresh selling. The NSE Nifty 50 fell 1.6% to its lowest since April 2025, extending Wednesday’s 0.8% drop after the central bank raised rates and signaled further tightening. Brent crude surged over 4% amid Middle East tensions, dragging the MSCI Asia Pacific down 1.8% toward its biggest slide since August.

Analysts warn that Brent near $104 and a rupee around 96.8 will keep pressure on margins and inflation. Foreign investors have withdrawn nearly $30 bn this year, on track for a record annual outflow. Market watchers cite intense foreign selling and potential rate hikes as drags on long‑term growth.

Among Nifty 50 constituents, Tata Consultancy Services ended 0.2% lower after a 3% swing, while Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank were notable decliners. The broader Nifty Small‑cap index fell 2.4% to its lowest since mid‑June.
