Wigan Warriors captain Liam Farrell is set to retire at the end of the season. The 36-year-old second-row forward has played 428 games and scored 151 tries since his 2010 debut. Farrell has won six Super League titles, five League Leaders' Shields, five Challenge Cups and two World Club Challenges. He became captain before the 2023 season and led Wigan to an unprecedented quadruple in 2024. Farrell, capped 12 times by England, has not played since June due to a shoulder injury. 'It's been a whirlwind of a career, more than I could ever have dreamed of doing,' he told the club's website. "Although I'll be sad not to be playing any more, I'm also very grateful for the career I have had and I can now look forward to the next part of my life."

A product of Wigan's academy system, Farrell made his debut as a teenager in 2010 and went on to become a pillar of consistency for the Cherry and Whites, playing exclusively for the club throughout his career. He was named in the Super League Dream Team six times and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy as man of the match in the 2016 Grand Final. Farrell succeeded Thomas Leulaui as captain and has won seven of 11 available trophies under his leadership, including the recent Challenge Cup victory at Wembley.
